7. SEO for Small Businesses : How to Compete with Big Brands Online

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback on the last few blogs - This week I will be discussing Search engine Optimisation (SEO) for small businesses.

For anyone unaware,  search engine optimisation is the process of improving traffic to a website on free & natural search engines such as Microsoft Bing or Google. Check out this video!

As search engine optimisation is free it means small businesses can compete with massive brands. A useful strategy for small businesses would be to find their niche market.

Big brands target the general market - This is a great opportunity for small businesses to target a more selective group of consumers by finding their niche. This can be done by using long-tail keywords "Cheap TVs in Wexford". Web users who have their location turned on or search the keyword Wexford will see this website appear big business general strategy of "Cheap TVs".  This is a successful location-based strategy.

Small businesses need to differentiate from what big brands are doing. They should offer highly personable engagement. For example, many big brands use AI & Chatbots to respond to social media questions about their products - Small businesses need to offer human interaction.

Particular attention is needed on successful backlinks - This can be achieved with:

  1. Guest Posts
  2. Local Collaboration with Media
  3. Social Media Promotion

This can be achieved better than big brands by driving hard into that niche combined with the local focus. Backlinks from reputable websites boost the ranking to search engines.

Tools like Google Analytics should be used to evaluate

  • The click rate they are getting from backlinks
  • Overall organic stats
  • Bounce rate
  • Time spent per visit
Small companies should also focus heavily on clear answers to Web browsers' common questions - they should host a review tab on their site with clear keywords in order to create clear linkage with search terms like cost, quality, review etc. This is something that many big brands shy away from on their websites.

I think it's great that small businesses can utilise search engine optimisation at no cost as it allows for healthy competition.

This week I will be sharing my thoughts on if Tech firms should invest in the South-East of Irelan d - The counties of Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Tipperary, and Carlow . Overall , I think the South – East is an excellent choice .   W hat are tech companies looking for from their location choices ?   Good Infrastructure – The South East of Ireland has good infra structure Including the N25 Waterford by - pass & the N25 New Ross by-pass. Modern infrastructure allows employees to travel to the office reliably and efficiently from a commuting county. For example, the South- East Infrastructure system is better suited than the West of Ireland.   Who do we want to Invest in the South – East?   The magic 7 Tech companies: Amazon, Alphabet, Apple, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla , all which have offices in Ireland but Nvidia. The Rise of Digital Payment systems

Hi Everyone and welcome back to my weekly blog post! This week I am sharing a fascinating topic with you -  The rise of digital payment systems.Digital payments are payments that happen electronically. Popular payment systems include credit and debit cards, phone payments such as Google Pay, and modern-day currencies like Bitcoin. E-commerce in the early 2000s kickstarted the rise in digital payment systems - people would use their debit/ credit cards to make payments.  Technology has advanced past debit cards - Contactless payments are the name of the game in today's world! Digital wallets allow consumers to store their bank cards on their smartphones and smart watches. Using near-field communication technology (NFC) a chip from the customer's device signals to a chip in the seller's card machine to carry out the transaction. The  COVID-19 pandemic helped further popularise this technology as consumers made the switch from cash as recommended by governments to prevent tra
